D-dimer, a Significant Coagulation Marker in Inflammatory and Infectious Conditions

The D-dimer test is crucial to rule out the presence of an inappropriate blood clot. It is also well established to be elevated across a spectrum of conditions, aiding in clinical management and prognosis. Recent studies found that other than being an excellent marker for pulmonary embolism (PE) and disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), it has clinical use in acute coronary syndrome and as a predictor of mortality. D-Dimer levels were highly correlative to the severity of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and acted well as a marker for early and effective predictor of clinical outcome. This presentation will highlight the evidence supporting the clinical utility of D-dimer in various clinical conditions.
