Blood cancers account for about 10% of all diagnosed cancers. At the point of diagnosis, staging for exact type, location and spread of the cancer is also done. Unlike other cancer staging systems affecting organs, each type of blood cancer has its own staging criteria.

On top of that, treatments also vary from active surveillance without cancer-directed therapy to standard cancer treatments. With over 100 different types of blood cancers now recognised, it is important to have an accurate diagnosis prior to deciding on a treatment.
